Students We Work With

Primary School - Students - Square Root

Primary School, Early

Kinder to Grade 3 (Ages 4 to 7)

For young children that have recently begun learning at school, it’s super important to make sure they get the best start possible.

This is the difference between being a high achiever that enjoys school, and not.

To help kids get the start they deserve, Square Root focuses on mastering the fundamental skills for each subject. By doing this, each child is then set up to understand the more advanced content in later years.

By knowing they’re in good hands and understanding their subjects’ content, students are now free to learn at their own pace and make improvements in leaps and bounds.

While school focuses on teaching lots of content, we will focus on teaching the depth that allows each child to comprehend and master the skills required to succeed.

Primary School Late - Students - Square Root

Primary School, Late

Grades 4 to 6 (Ages 8 to 11)

As students progress through school, it’s important to change the focus from fundamental concepts to begin introducing new content.

During this stage of a child’s learning, we use the concepts of earlier years to build understanding of more advanced concepts. This allows us to continually revise previous content, while simultaneously discovering new concepts.

It’s important to allow students the chance to explore these new concepts and play with the ideas as they learn them. This gives them the opportunity to learn what works, and what doesn’t work.

While students learn these new concepts and build on their past knowledge, it’s essential to keep learning fun and engaging.

Middle School - Students - Square Root

Middle School

Grades 7 to 10 (Ages 12 to 16)

As children grow and become teenagers, their brains also grow. This allows older kids to then learn and memorise more content.

This allows us to cover new content, and build on previous topics.

As we introduce new ideas, we can encourage students to investigate higher level ideas. These are ideas that are more abstract, such as probability in Maths or argument analysis in English.

As they start to learn this content, they will need to use the fundamental concepts they learnt in previous years to not only complete the tasks, but also to understand the ideas.

Final Years - Students - Square Root

High School (VCE, HSC, etc)

Grades 11 and 12 (Ages 17 to 18)

As students come towards the end of the schooling, it’s becomes essential for them to focus on their exams.

During this period of their studies and development, we want to move from learning content to critically applying it.

This is often confused with simply applying the knowledge, but there’s a key difference. Critically application is about knowing when, where and how to apply specific pieces of knowledge.

This is best demonstrated during assignments and exams, but can also be applied during other tasks, such as writing essays in English class.

International Baccalaureate IB Diploma Programme - Students - Square Root

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme

Grades 11 and 12 (Ages 17 to 18)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programma (DP) is a fantastic education program for students.

They will cover 6 topics, 3 of which will be completed at a ‘higher’ level than others.

The content for this course is specific, with a range of extra tasks compared to other year 11 / 12 programs (ie VCE, HSC, etc).

At its core, students must become critical of their learning and to demonstrate higher levels of academic skills (eg organisation, analysis, etc).

For this program, we believe it’s vital to practice the skills of our subjects, while questioning why we use these, and how to improve on them.
